[PRIOBB AOENCV.I DESTRUCTIVE FIRES AT LYTTELTON, GHAHAMSTOWN, AND AUCKLAND Christciiukch, Monday. Yesterday morning a destructive fire broke out in Lyttclton, originating, it is supposed, in Pope's blacksmith shop, which, together wifh Bain's grorera shop, tile old Bank Of New Zealand. Wood's chandlery store, aad some small cottages belonging to Captain Wood, were all destroyed. The insurances are :—Bain's stock, .£3OO in the Colonial ana building £120, in the Sun , Pope's building and machinery, £0:55, and the old Bank £200, both in the London and Lancashire ; Wood's building and stock. £950, principally in the South British. The aggregate sums insured fall very far short of the value of the property destroyed. Wood had 100 tons of coal atd 40 cords of firewood destroyed, uninsured. Nothing has been ascertained as to the cause of the fire. A person was charged this morning at the KM. Court with defacing a railway ticket by rendering it illegible. Mr Cowlishaw defended, and the case was adjourned fora week so that the railway authorities might be consulted. Grahamstoavn, Monday. An alarming fire broke out at two o'clock this morning in Pollen-street near 'the scene of the late firft. It commenced in the empty shop of James Wiison, tinsmith, ja bankrupt. A man living in the building declares the fire was put out at seven o'clock yesterday morning. He was out at the time. It destroyed the premises of Martin, draper. The latter was also out of the house. He was only insured for £400 during the last fortnight in the Norwich Union. Everett's grocery store was destroyed. A private house belonging to Mr Stevens in SealeyBtreet caught fire, but was saved. An empty shop lately occupied by Payne, a butcher, was pulled down to save Foy'a, photographer Heatherington's large boot and drapery establishment on one side and Mr Snowbury's grocery store on the other narrowly escaped, and. sustained much injury by removal, and water, and fire. The Brigades were very prompt and active, but there was a bad supply of water. Auckland, Monday. A five roomed house at Ponsonby was totally destroyed by fire, caused bv a kerosene lamp falling upon the floor and exploding. The flames spread rapidly, leaving barely time for the wife and father of the owner to escape. The furniture was insured for £150 in the New Zealand, and the house for £120 in the London and Liverpool. Another fire occurred in Coburg-street, adjoining Harbuff's brush factory. The house was completely gutted before the flames were extinguished. Wellington, Monday. Jessie Walker, for wearing male apparel in the street, was let off with one hour's imprisonment.
