[From a correspondent.] Wellington, Friday 9.45 a.m. The Lords last night made havoc in the Public Works Bill by striking out a number of the proposed lines from the schedule, the Nelson and Greymouth among tbem. There was considerable excitement in the lobbies at 1230 am., when Mr Whitaker thought it time to adjourn in order that Ministers might consider their position. Tbe Lords meet at 10 this morning, and the House at noon, The Legislative Council is very tbin, most of them having gone. k It is doubtful when the House will pro- / rogue.
