The Nelson Evening Mail. TUESDAY, DECEMBER 17, 1878.

A special meeting of the Waitnea County, j Council was held this morning, for the purpose of discussing the desirability of bringing ! into force the whole of the Counties Act. All the members were, present, namely, Messrs Barnicoat (chairman), <■„B hephard, Macmahon, rDencker, Phillips,' Bird, and Wells. Our report of the proceedings will appear to-morrow. In the meantime we may state that Mr Dencker proposed and Mr Bird seconded, a resolution for bringing the Act into force, which waa supported by Messrs Barnico&t, Shepfaard, ahd Phillip, Messrs Macqaahon aqd Wells only bei^g opposed to it. Mr Wells proposed the adjournment of the meeting for four weeks to allow of the further consideration ! of, ,{;&! subject On being put to the vote the result waa; — Ayes: Messrs Barnicoat, Wells, and Maemahcn. Noes: Messrs Shephard, /.Dencker, andj Phillips. Mr Bird declined '.tp^ote. Mr Barnicoat gave his casting 'vote 'with the Ayes, and the meeting adjourned until Tuesday, the 14th January.
