With to-day's issue we publish a supplement containing the Public Works Statement, for which we are indebted to the Government who caused it to be telegraphed to the newspapers last night. We are glad to find that provision's made in the estimates for the continuation of the Nelsou and Foxhill line to the West Coast, the Minister stating that it is intended to call for tenders for a section at each end of the line. It, appears, however, that it has been decided to take the line through the Big Bush instead of by way of the Motueka Valley and the Hope. This we gather from a telegram we have received containing extracts from the estimates attached to the Statement which runs thus -.-" The following amounts are appropriated for expenditure during the financial year ending 30th June 1880 :— Nelson and Greymouth and West Coast railway, from Nelson to the Rouudell £57,000, leaving a balance for future appropriation of £243,000 ; Greymouth to Nelson Creek £5,000 ; balance for future appropriation £4,000. Greymouth harbor works £4,000; Greymouth-Ilokitika line £46,500; balance for future appropriation £173.500. Wesport- Ngakawau line £14,000 ; balance for future appropriation £6,000." l We understand that on aDd after Monday next a second daily mail win be established between Nehon and Richmond, Brightwater, Wakefield aud Foxhill stations by the trains leaving Nelson at 9-30 a.m., and Foxhill at 115 pm The morning mail will close at the Chief Office, Nelson, at 9 o'clock, and the inward correspondence will be delivered at 2 45 p. m . This will be a great convenience, but we still think that a further improvement might be made by attaching a box to the guard's van, in which might be posted letters for Nelson. An entertainment is advertised to take place in the Masonic Hall tonight, when Signor Ewini from America will perform some conjuring tricks, after which tbere will be a farce in which Miss Amy Thornton will appear. The Port Hall bazaar wa9 largely patronised last night, and a roaring- trade was done by the young ladies in charge of the stallß. During the evening theie was some music and singing, and the String Band played some lively airs. The bazaar will be open again to-night, when a larger attendance than heretofore is expected. Theke was another large audience at the Wesleyan school-room last night, when Dr Irvine delivered the concluding portion of his lecture on "The Great Pyramid and its teachings." The lecture was very successfully illustrated by dissolving views, and was listened to with deep attention from beginning to end, the information the Doctor had to impart evidently being regarded with deep interest. This will be the last evening but one on which the Dramatic Troubadours will perform in Nelson, the programme being an attractive one, consisting of "Conrad and Lizette" and "Patchwork." The little Company have made many friends during their stay here, and are likely to be well patronised to-night, and at their farewell performance to-morrow. The gymnastic competition takes place at the College to-morrow afternoon, after which the prizes won then, and at the sports today, will be distributed. The distribution of school prizes will take place on Friday afternoon.
