The Manawatu Timet states that several tracks laden with baulks of timber, having the name of the wood and the measurement painted on each baulk, were sent by rail last week from Fielding. The timber was on its •way to Wellington, where it will be shipped to England per Rakia. It seems that Mr Malcolm, of the Makino Mill, being anxious to test tbe value of New Zealand timber in the Home market, has determed to send to London a trial shipment of totara, ritnu, and matai. There can be no question that some of oor native woods are for furniture purposes equal to any woods in the world, and we fancy tbat their value only requires to be known to ensure a ready market for any amount we can export.
