PARLIAMENTARY.

Wellington, Tueesday. A great part of last night's sitting was occupied over the estimates. The only item which raised any considerable discussion was £3000 for the Agent General's Department A resolution was moved by Mr Gisborne, That the item be reduced by £1000. A good deal of discussion ensued, in which the question of Sir Julius Vogel entering Parliament was entered into largely, several members submitting that his doing so would be productive of good rather than of harm to New Zealand. Mr Levin spoke strongly on the subject, and said although Sir Julius had done much service to the colony he would do a great deal more if he entered the British Parliament.— Mr Bowen also spoke strongly on the same subject and expressed the same views.— Sir G. Grey strongly objected to any Agent General for New Zealand Bitting in the House of Commons. — Mr Moorhouse agreed with Mr Levin that the cost of this Department was a mere bagatelle, and Sir Julius Vogel bad done more good for New Zealand than any of his predecessors. — The vote was put and carried. The other items passed unaltered. The Public Works statement is promised at the end of the present week. The House sat till nearly two. The publis works vote for railways was reduced by £27,777 ; Wellington magazine £4000, was reduced to £1500 ; public buildings was redoced by £1370.
