Captain Irwin Charles Maling has retired from H.M. 23rd Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He was well known in Mew Zealand on the staff of His Excellency the Marquis of Normanby. He has been appointed Colonial Secretary of Grenada, one of the most charming of the Windward Islands, an appointment worth £550 per annum. Captain Mating (aaya a contemporary) served with Captain Lillicrap as volunteers together in the Bengal Yeomanry Cavalry, with Brigadier Rowcroft'a field force during the India Mutiny campaign of 1857-8, and received the Mutiny medal for his services, as well as hia commission in th« army for his service with this force.
