INTERPROVINCIAL.
[FEKBB AQENOT.I Wellington, Saturday. Tne Gazette contains lHtle of importance, except the Customs returns for tbe September quarter, which give a total of £308,850, while for the corresponding quarter of 1878 they amounted to £365,494. The greatest falling off is in spirits, wine, tea, and ad valorem goods. The falling off has been moat conspicuous ia the returns from Lyttelton and Dunedin, with Wellington next, but Auckland i* proportionately less than either of these. The Opposition are making overtures to the Hall Ministry with a view to terminating the present deadlock. The basis of the arrangement will probably be that some of the Opposition members will be included in the new Ministry. It is considered that this is the only possible solution of the difficulty. aa uu * .x Timabc, Friday night A deliberate attempt to upset the evening train from Oamaru to Timaru was made last night at Normanby Bay by placing a sleeper on the line and kedging it with stones so that the cow-catcher could not throw it off.
