MEETING AT SPRING GROVE.

[COMMONIPAT?D.] A large meeting of Mr Shephard's constituents was held at Spring Grove on Saturday night, Mr W. Lightband iv the chair. There was some discussion, and much dissatisfaction was expressed at Mr Shenhard's action, |and it was stated that several members Of ilis Committee had been asked for an explanation of his conduct, but that they could give none. The following address to Mr Shephard wua tnca adopted by a large majority: — " To Joseph Suei-hard, Esq., M.11.R. " Sm— We, the undersigned members of your Committee and other electors of the district, have seen with regret and astonishnieut that the first vote you have given in the House of Representatives is in direct violation of a distiuct aud empbitic pledge which you made to your constituents, viz., that you would support no Government of which Mr Macandrew was a member. We therefore feel bound to iuform you that you no longer have our confidence or respect, and we request that you will forthwith resign your seat as oar representative ia Parliament."

The usual vote of thanks to the chairman was passed, and a number of ,the electors at once signed the petition. A Committee wai formed to obtain signatures throughout the district.
