Owing to the small force at his command, and the want of oamcla, General Roberta lias decide:! tr> hold bis po-wti m v n the heights commanding the Shutargarriati Pass, pending the arrival of assistance.
In a telegram to headquarters at Pesha* wur, General Roberts states that owing to the disturbed state of the country at lease •n u the troo P 3 at Present at his disposal will be required before it will be prudent to make an advance. He finds it utterly impossible to make a sudden dash upon Cabul, as he at first intended. Reinforcements are being sent to his aid as fast as possible.
