THE RUSSIAN ARMY.
In some of fhe more distinguished corps of the Russian army (remarks an English paper) uniformity of apperance is insisted upon in a degree which has probably never been equalled in any European force, except perhaps in the Prussian service in the most rigorous days af Frederick William I. Describing the review held at Kasnoje-Selo a few days ago in the presence of the Emperor of Russia a German military correspondent states that in each regiment of the cavalry of the Guard all tbe horeea are of the same color. In ihe Gatjino Regiment of cniraeeiers, for instance, the horses are all chestnuts, in the cuirassier regimeDt of the Guard all black, and so on. In the regiment of Horae Guards the men are even distributed into squadrons according to the color of their hai , and also, so far as possible, according to tbe shape of tbeir noses. In tbe first and second sqaadronß, for example, all tbe men have light hair, in the third all have black, and in tbe fourth all have brown hair; while a man with a Roman oose would never be found in the same fiqutadron as the man with a turned-up nose. The German correspondent was especially struck with tbe excellence of the horses of the cavalry of the Gnard,. asserting that on tbe whole he has never seen a better mounted body of troops in any prmy. The march past of the cavalry ia, however, said to have been far from perfect; while among tbe officers there were several conspicuously bad riders. Tbe infantry
inarched past fairly, but not so well as any German line regiment would hove donf; and, altogether, the artillery appears to have been; the arm of se r*; ce which acquitted itself mos' r creditably.
