FIRES AND CHOLERA IN CHINA. Cooktown, Monday. Arrived— Steamer Brisbane from Chinese ports. She brings tbe following news :— Shakgahai, August 15. A most destructive fire has occurred, •82??? tnwughont eleven streets, by S^t Z .T* 8 were completely destroyed. Tbe balk of them were uninsured Cholera is raging at Lonquin, Macho and Loocboo. In one district alone lO.ioo nersons hare died. . . . _, Stdkey, Monday. Arrived — Biogarooma from New Zealand. The Governor* of Victoria and Tasmania with their private Secretaries arrived today. The Exhibition buildings are completed and the opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday and promises to be a grand spectacle. Melbourne, Monday. It is intended to prosecute the directors and managers of the Provincial and Suburban Bank for conspiracy. The Gorernment have signed a convention With the Peninsular and Oriental Company proriding for the discontinuance of tbe Soqthhampton mail service. _ J
