To the Editor of the 'Evening Mail.'
Sir,— A candidate for the Suburbs for M.H.U., accused of being an atheist, denied the accusation, but where correct, I consider it an objection that ought to carry weight, for better have the House filled with lawyers than with atheists. A man of colour who was asked for his support for a candidate once replied : " What ! Send a Heathen to Parliament." Surely Mr Editor if a man of colour has the discrimination to discern the inconsistency of such a course, what should be expected of a white man ? They tell us religion has nothing to do with politics, with which assertion I do not agree, but conceive that is the best House of Parliament where all its members are under the influence of an all wise Providence, and whose hearts are governed by the love of Christ. Let Christians seriously think over the matter ere they commit themselves to so (as it appears to Die) uuwise a step. Neither be midled into voting for one candidate only and thereby allowing the wrong man to be returned, but record your votes for the two best men to secure justice for Nelson. I am, &c , Voter.
