PURE VOLATILE EUCALYPTUS GLOBULUS EXTRACT TTNDER tbe Distinguished Patronage ol U his Majesty tbe King of Italy, at Rome, according to communication received from tbe Consul-General for Italy, at Melbourne, upon instruction* from tbe Minister for Foreign Affairs, dated 14th March, 1878. We are informed that dealers in medicine often try to sell the eucalyptus oil found in the trade instead of our Eucalyptus Extmct. So far as the committing of imposition against the public in such a case is concerned, the consequences would not be serious ; but as the qualities of both of tbe products are in many cases directly opposed to one another, we consider it our duty to direct the public attention to tbe following facts :— The eucalyptus oil is recorded to be of value as a medicament in cases of rheumatism of secondary nature, and manifests a drawing, blistering effect upon the skin. Any blistering brought en by the application of a medicament muit increase inflammation, and it is therefore evident that in cases of wounds, colds, bronchitis, diphtheria, croup, sprains, etc.. the curative power o! our extract on the named diseases being unquestionably proved by former publications in this paper. An application of tbe oil instead of our extract must impair the diseased. The truth of our assertion is founded upon the fact that the oil is a resinous product equivalent to common turpentine, its market value being about three shillings one pound weight ; our extract corsists of the evaporating particles of the gum leaves, soothing and healing in its effects, its price being twenty-four shillings for one pound weight Oar extract, tbe genuine article is enly made up in half-ounce and one-ounce vials ; vials bearing on th6 labels our trade mark and signature.
