We have been requested to call attention to an alteration in the official notice of the Suburbs election, the Wakefield Institute being appointed the chief polling place, and consequently the one at which the nomination will be heldj instead of the Court itouse, Brightwater. Mr John R. Mabin reports the sale by auction at Cross' wbarf yesterday of rimu timber at 7s 3d aud red pine 7a 'Jd. At the monthly inspection f)arnde of the Volunteers last night, Major Pitt read a copy of a resolution passed at a meeting held at New Plymouth recently, expressing the thanks of the inhabitants of that place to the Volunteers of the colony for the ready manner iu which they had offered their services in the event of hostilities taking place with the natives. The Major tben spoke of the death of Captain Gully of the Naval Brigade, and held him up as a bright example to Volunteers. Mb. Shephard addressed -about fifty electors at Spring Grove last night, when, after questions had been put by Messrs Wratt, Akersten, Freeman, Lightband, and others,' a vote of confidence was proposed by Mr Wratt and carried unanimously. We are requested by Mr Graham's Committee to inform the electors that their candidate has not the slightest intention of retiring from tbe contest, although a report to that effect is in circulation. Rayner's celebrated diorama of the Ameri can war arrived by the Wellington last night, and will be exhibited at the Theatre Royal this evening, when a large number of valuable gifts will be presented to the audience. Theke was but a limited audience at the entertainment at the Theatre Rojal last night in aid of the City Rifle fund. There was also a slight hitch in the performance, as, owing to Mr Leighton being suddenly taker, ill, he notified that he would be unable to deliver his proposed lecture, and other arrangements had to be made. Mr Leighton, however, recovered sufficiently to be able to give his lecture in abbreviated form, and very interesting it was. This was followed by the hurriedly prepared portion of the entertainment which included the farce "Two Gentlemen in a Fix," which was acted to the life.
