The Lady Barkly left on her periodical trip to Golden Bay this morning. The Kennedy arrived, at Westport at 7 o'clock tbis morning. The Wallace left for Wellington this afternoon, and is expected back on Saturday morning. The Taiaroa left New Plymouth at 9*30 a_m. to-day, will arrive here to-night, and sail for Picton and Wellington at 3 p.m. to-morrow. The barque Canny Scott, bound from Newcastle to Lyttelton with coal, put in here to-day, having sprung a leak during the passage. She is 14 days out, and has passed through some terrible weather. The barque waß towed into harbor by the Charles Edward this afternoon. Tbe Wellington leaves Wellington at 2 p.m. to-morrow, will arrive here on Saturday morning, and sail for Taranaki and Manukau with the outward San Francisco mail, at 8 p.m same day. The Murray is expected to leave Greymouth this evening and Westport to-morrow morning, arriving here on Saturday morning. She proceeds to Wellington on the day of arrival. The Charles Edward arrived in harbor at half-past two this afternoon. She left Nelson at noon on the 6th instant, and arrived off Westport at 8 a.m. next day, crossing the bar at 10 a.m ; sailed at la.m. on the Bth and arrived off Hokitika at 9 a.m , crossing' the bar shortly after noon; discharged cargo, and left at 2 p.m. on Saturday, and arrived off Greymouth at 4*30 p.m., but on account of the shallow state of the bar was unable to cross it until 4 p.m. on Sunday; was detained there for the outward San Francisco mail until Tuesday, when she left at 430 p.m., reaching Westport at 2 a.m. yesterday, crossing the bar two hours later, having experi- I enced strong S.E. winds with thick rain and j nasty sea during the passage-, sailed at 5 p.m , I and arrived here as above. The Charles Edward took the Canny Scot in tow in the Bay and brought her to the outer anchorage' and towed her into harbor at 4p m The* ateamer returns to West Coast ports on Saturday. Thirteen sailors belonging to the barqne I a V\ ter j° f Marine * recently arrived at ! AuckUnd from London, interviewed the Magistrates, and made serious charges of brutality against the master of the vessel Captain Murphy. The spokesman of the party gave a description of how he had been kept in irons for ten days upon bread and water, and was one day without any food at all, and when he was released he fell down from physical exhaustion. On another occasion he was gagged and ironed by the legs, and severely beaten while in that position. The Magistrate said the case would be investigated, and if tbe statements were found to be true immediate steps would be taken to bring the captain to justice.
