TO THE ELECTORS OF THE COLLINGWOOD DISTRICT. ri ENTLEMEN— As an old Nelson settler VT returning from Canterbury, and now occupying land in Rivvaka, where I am about to reside, I beg to offer myself as a candidate for the honor of representing you in* the forthcoming Parliament. Holding decided Liberal views Jin politics* and being an Engineer and Surveyor of 22 years New Zealand experience, I feel I could well represent an important mining and agricultural district like yours, and one whose resources have heretofore been so manifestly neglected. ' J During the coming week I shall do myself the honor of holding meetings at the several centres of your District, to which I invite your special attendance. I have the honor to be, Gentlemen, Yours &c, H. B. HUDDLESTON, Civil Engineer. Nelson, Aug. 9, 1879. ■ p TO THE ELECTORS OP WAIMEA, /GENTLEMEN, — A DISSOLUTION of \JT PARLIAMENT is about to take place, when you will be called upon to elect BomeoDe to represent yonr interests in the Colonial Parliament Mr Fitt having waited upon me to ascertain whether I was coming forward again, aa he had no wish to oppose me, I may at once state that it is my intention not to offer myself again for le-election, as I find that the infirmities attendant upon old age prevent my getting about the district as formerly to enquire into your wants, which I consider every representative should do. I leei therefore that it will be better for you, and will add largely to my own peace and comfort, to spend the remainder of my old age at homeland as you will have a choice of two gentlemen to -eelecfc from, I shall now retire from political {strife. Thanking yqn, gentlemen, for the confidence you have placed in me for bo many yeara past, I remain yours respectfully, 2383 E. BAIGENT. TO THE ELECTORS OF WAIMEA. GENTLEMEN,-At the reqneafc of a large number of influential Hectors in jour district, I have consented to become a Candidate lor tht honor of representing you in the House of Representatives m the next Parliament. In the event nf a Dissolution of the present Parliament, I shall speedily meet and address you on many leading political questions, but in the meantime I may ray that if elected,' l shnli net only strenuously advocate our right and c'aims to the construction of the Foxhlll and Brunnerton Railways, but ah«ll also dm my best exertions for securing the early carrying out of other public worka so essentially nicessary for facilitating communication, promoting settlement, and developing the resources cf your large and valuable district. I pledge myself to support, if elected, free and secular education, triennial Parliaments, extension of the franchise, and liberal land laws ; and though I should always be found in politics a true "Liberal," I- should feel bound to oppose the present Premier and Minister of Public Works as Ministers; .on account of the manner in which they have ignored and neglected the just claims of the Neleon Provincial District in the matter of public works. - 1 ' lA Yours faithfully, ALBERT FITT.
