THE POLITICAL SITUATION.

(From our own correspondent). Wellington, Friday. The Opposition bad agreed to grant the Ministry the necessary supplies until the new Parliament could meet, also to pass the Loan Bill, but Sir G. Grey failing to pick a quarrel on these points, wrote to Sir W. Fox to day stating that he proposed passing Electoral Redistribution and Chinese Immigration Bills. This is a proceeding directly in contravention of the Governor's terms of dissolution and means delay, which the Governoi: provided against, and as there would not be time to prepare the new rolls, such Bills would be useless for the next election and from their character ought to be introduced by a Government having the confidence of the House. Sir G. Grey is scheming to prevent the Opposition obtaining the credit of passing these measures, which they will immediately introduce on the return of the new Parliament. The report of the Committee on the alteration of the plan and name of the Aroha railway has damaged Sir G. Grey and Mr Macandrew immensely, and is creating a strong feeling of distrust whilst they remain in power, as they act in direct defiance of Parliament. The New Zeala*der'i report of the Opposition caucus subscribing money for the success of the party is absolutely groundless, as the matter was never even mentioned.
