Captain R. A. Edwin reports:— "Fall of glass within 12 hours; bad weather approaching. Indications of direction same as before." The Lady Barkly returned f.om Golden Bay last night. The Lyttelton arrived at Blenheim from Nelson at 1*45 p.m. to-day. The Wallace left Wanganui this afternoon for ; Nelson, and will arrive here to-morrow morning. The Murray at Greymouth, and the Charles Edward at Weßtport, are still close prisoners, both reporting heavy seas and no chance of leaving at present. The Taiaroa leaves Wellington this afternoon, will arrive here to-moirow morning, and sail for Taranaki and Manukau by tbe same tide at 3 p.m. While in Melbourne the Claud Hamilton had a thorough overhaul, and was supplied with a new crank shaft. In addition she was cleaned and painted all over, so that she now looks as fresh as a daisy. The Wellington arrived at the outer anchorage this morning too late to catch the early tide, and consequently had to come to an anchor, where she remained until 11 a.m. when she came into harbor. She left Onehunga at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, and was off New Plymouth early yesterday morning; landed mails, &c, and proceeded on to Nelson at noon, arriving here as above. The Wellington sailed for Picton and Wellington by the same tide at 1 p.m. The Claud Hamilton left Melbourne on July 3rd at 6 p.m., and arrived off Hokitika at 10 a.m. on the 9th; sailed at neon ou the 10th, and arrived here at 10 a m. to-day. She experienced light W. and S.W. winds with moderate weather to arrival at Hokitika, but the barometer was unaccountably low, being down to 290. Whilst waiting off Hokitika a strong westerly gale was Encountered, which necessitated the Claud's departure for Nelson without discharging all her cargo for that port. For the same reason she passed by Greymouth. She brings 60 tons of cargo for this port. Captain Irwin, late chief officer of the Arawata and Ladybird, is in command of the Claud Hamilton. She sails for Grey, Hokitika, Newcastle, and Melbourne at 1 p.m. to-morrow.
