A STUDENT'S MASQUERADE.

A practical joke recently played by a student in the Ohio Normal College bad a decidedly unpleasant ending for tbe joker, and which wiil doubtless teach bim a wholesome lesson for tbe rest of his life. A number of the students bad ooe evening been diacuesaing spiritualises, ghostly appearances, and other •operoatoral wonders, end one of tbem,

a young man named Stout, bad announced bis belief in the power of ihe dead, under some circumstances, torevisit thia world, in visible form. He waa almost alone in this belief, and his declaration of it excited much ridicule amongst his brother students, and gave the idea lo ooe of tbem, named Love, of having a .joke at Stout's expense. Accordingly, after all tbe rest bad gone to bed, Mr Love wrapped bimeell io a Bheet, and repaired to Stout's bedroom. Cautiously entering, be found Slout souDd esleep. In order to awaken him with tbe traditional " icy touch" of a ghost, he pressed his palm against a window pane until it was thoroughly chilled, and then laid it on the forehead of the sleeper, at the Bame time saying, in as sepulchral a voice as he could assume. "Awake ! Awake !" Stout did awake, and his first movement showed that he was very wide awake indeed. He may have been frightened, or he may have i seen through the imposture at once, but he certainly was not paralyzed by tear, for he jumped out of bed, seized a chair and brought it down with a resounding whack on tbe head of his ghoßtship. With a yell that was not at all ghostly, Love dropped to the floor, and when lights and assistance arrived, he was I found to bave a cracked skull aod a broken nose. He is now recovering from his injuries, but he does not look at all pretty with his bandaged head and his nose in splints, and it is believed tbat be will not again disturb bis comrades with any more masquerades ia ghostly costume. -"--- ■■- ■ ■ -LJ UUK '■'.
