July 9, cutter Dauntless, 1 2, Ricketts, for Marahau. 10, cutter Maid of Italy, 15, Clarke, for Riwaka. EXPECTED ABRIfALB. Steamer Claud Hamilton, from Melbourne, via West Coast, to- night Steamer Wellington, from Taranaki and Manukau, to-morrow Steamer Wallace, from Wanganui, to-mor-row Steamer Charles Edward, from West Coast July 12 Steamer Taiaroa, from Picton and Wellington, July 12 Steamer Wanganui, from Wellington and South, July 13 Barque Vindex, from Newcastle.
The Awaroa arrived from Wanganui this morning. The Wallace at Wanganui reports westerly gale outside, and signals flying bar dangerou?. Sbe will leave as coon as it moderates. The Murray is a fast prisoner at Greymonth, where Jthere is a heavy sea breaking on tbe bar and a westerly gale blowing. The Charles Edward was unable to cross the Westport bar to-day. The Lyttelton sails for Blenheim at 4 o'clock this afternoon. We are glad to learn tbat the schooner Croydon Lass has arrived at Patea. Sbe waa off that port on Monday, but did not get towed across the bar till Tuesday. The new steamer was taken to the Government Wharf this afternoon, and received her boiler there. The Taiaroa's departure from Wellington has been postponed until to-morrow. She will arrive here on Saturday, and sail for Taranaki and Manukau at 3 p.m. same day. Tbe Claud Hamilton left Greymouth at noon to-day. Sbe will arrive here to-morrow morning, and sail for Melbourne and Newcastle via West Coast ports at 1 pm. on Saturday. v The Wellington left New Plymouth at noon to-day, will arrive here early to-mor-row morning, and sail for Picton and Wellington at noon, taking passengers and cargo for Southern ports, Melbourne, and Adelaide, hut not for Hobarton, as previously announced, as the Albion does not call at tbat port. It has been decided to sell the Taupo on the 22nd July, with her engines, machinery, and steam winches, and other articles. It is stated that Melbourne loses £100,000 per annum by the transfer of Messrs Meckan and Blackwood's steamers to the Union Company. The race home between the P. and O. mail steamer Assam and the Orient liner Cuzco ia regarded with great interest here (■ays an exchange). The Cuzco was handicapped by having to stop at Adelaide to take in cargo, while she started two days later than the P. and O boat, the latter having, however, to call at King George's Sound for ma ; ls, as well as at Adelaide. The deviation by way of Galle goes against the mail steamer, but, upon the whole, the delays are pretty evenly balanced. If* however, the Cuzco should pass through the canal first tbat result will be a marked triumph for the advocates of alternative mail routes.
