Thb Secretary of tbe Nelson Committee shipped per Taiaroa to-day seven cases and one barrel containing exhibits for tbe Sydney International Exhibition, consisting of ale, porter, hops, barley, malt, baskets made from the supple-jack vine, shell ornaments made from Pawa shell, and a scarf, homespun and knitted by a Nelson young lady. Exhibitors are reminded that the remaining exhibits should come to hand in time to be catalogued and shipped by next steamer. Mr Patterson bas kindly consented to receire articles at his auction rooms, Hardy-street for the Secretary. ' The Masonic Hall was opened this afternoon for the sale of work in connection with All Saints' parish, and will remain open tonight, when a Christmas Tree laden with a choice selection of prizes will form the chief attraction, and to-morrow afternoon and evening. The articles displayed for sale are noticeable not only for the unusual excellence of their quality, but for their large variety which, while it entirely precludes our giving a complete list of the contents of the Btalls, should prove an inducement to large numbers of visitors to attend, as all may feel assured of finding something to suit their taste, and, we may add, of being able to seeare what they want at very reasonable rates. Sekgeant.Majob Htdb, who was sent here by the Government some six weeks since to instruct the Artillery and Naval Brigade in ordnance drill, returned to Weilington by ths Taiaroa this morning. Ths members of the former corps underwent a course of drill undsr the instruction of ths Sergeant-Major, but the Blue Jackets, owing to the inopportune season of tha year, only received one lesson. They ar* in hopes however, of receiving a visit from BergeantMajor Hyde at a more favorable time. Thb election of a member of the Waimea Road Boad for iha sub-district of Wakefield, took place yesterday, in the Foxhill schoolroom, and appeared to excite a good deal of interest, as, although it waa raining heavily the whole of the day, sixty-five votes were recorded. Mr Thos. Hunt was proposed as chairman by Mr Holland, and Mr Grove by Mr Price, five hands for the former and four for tbe latter put Mr Hunt In the chair. Messrs David Thomas and Joseph Holland proposed and seconded Mr George Holland as a candidate for the Road Board, and Messrs Jervis and Boddington proposed and seconded Mr Joseph Price. The show of hands was in favor of Mr Holland, whereupon Mr Price demanded a poll, which resulted as follows : Price, 45 ; Holland, 20. Mr Price was accordingly declared daly elected, and a vote of thanks to the chair- : man terminated the proceedings. It is to be remarked of tbia election that the voting was strictly secret, as thsrs was o» number marked on the ballot papers by which ths vote could be identified, as nasal, but simply the chairman's Initials.— CammttmaUd.
