[Per Hero at Auckland.] _, „ .. Stdnet. Tbe Herald condemns the system in the colonies of the unemployed relying for work on tbe expenditure of borrowed money. Tbe City Corporation of Sydney are in pecuniary difficulties owing to the pressure of the Union Bank for the payment of their overdraft of nearly £75,000. Gately, the hangman, attempted suicide while drunk. Heavy floods have occurred up the country. Several articles of jewellery were missing from the person of tbe actor Bates when found dead. Father Henneberry has opened his Temperance mission at Brisbane, when 2000 persons, including the Bishop, took the pledge. A circular hurricane at Brisbane did considerable damage in tbe city. Houses were unroofed, verandahs blown'away, and trees felled, but there was no loss of life. [Per Albion at the Bluff.] Blackwell, the Conservative candidate, beat Gray of tbe Reform League, and a Ministerial nominee by 82 for Fitzroy. Large deputations of the unemployed wait upon Mr Berry soliciting work. The Government have appointed a Board to ascertain where relief can be found. Work is provided in some quarters, but still they are discontented, and many are disinclined to quit the metropolis
