G jey sent a verbal message by Mr Macandrew to Mr Ballance to-day, offering to apologise amply if he would resume the Treasurership. Mr Ballance replied that it was no longer possi* ble. He left in the Rangatira for Wanganoi to-night. An accident happened on board the Rangatira this evening befsre leaving. While taking in cargo the purchase carried away, and let an iron monkey fall, which broke the hatchway, and two men in the hold were iDJared, one receiving a severe scalp wound, and the other seemed crushed, and groaned terribly. He was taken to the Hospital. It is understood that the Government have finally decided not to appoint another Auckland man to any vacancy in the Cabinet. It is reported that the Attorney-General's office has been offered to Mr Moorhouse. Taobanga, Thursday. The contractors for raising the Taupo finally abandoned the wreck to-day. All the preparations for the final raising were made, and the work had just commenced when a heavy sea coming in with the tide carried away a portion of the gear, thus rendering all the work useless. The contractors have been most unfortunate in the weather, this being the third time the sea has damaged the gear. Christchubch, Thursday. Edward Barns, Surveyor to the Springßton Road Board, was thrown from his horse on Monday and died last night.
