New Plymouth, Tuesday night. Fifteen Maori ploughmen were charged this, morning before the Magistrate for malicious injury to property on Courtney's farm at Oakura, and were committed for trial at th« nex<L sittings of the District Court at New Plymouth. There was no defence. A detachment of 80 Constabulary have gone by special train to Waitara en route for Urenui. 1 Wellington, Wednesday. . A good deal of excitement was caused in town this morning by a report that was current that shooting had commenced at Hawera. The report originated among some Maoris who were iff town. The Government having received no information, an urgent message was sent to Hawera which brought the following reply :— " Hawera, 10.45. a.m. No truth whatever in report that fighting commenced. Ploughing has not commenced. Te Whiti says that the ploughmen having been imprisoned, his prophecy is ended. This is taken to mean that the matter passes into other hands now, which are supposed to be Titoko Waru's."
