The Wallace arrived from West Coast ports this afternoon, after a rapid round of five days and calling at Greymouth each way. The Lyttelton arrived from Wanganui this morning, and left for Blenheim this afternoon. The Murray sailed for West Coast ports yesterday afternoon, and should arrive at Westport to-day. We understand that the ketch Phoenix has changed hands, the figure being £55. Mr D. Fraser is the purchaser. All the vessels -which were lying at the Tata Islands windbound last week have made a fresh start, most of them beiug passed by the Croydon Lass in the bay yesterday. /,. The Wellington leaves Onehunga to-day, / will arrive here to-morrow night, and sail j for Pieton and Wellington at noon on FriThe schooner Croydon Lass, bound from Waitapu to Patea, put in here this morning. She left the Tata Islands on Sunday, and arrived off the Patea bar at 2 o'clock on Monday morning. There was a very heavy sea running on the bar, and as the tug Bteamer did not come out, Captain Curran did not care about waiting outside and risking his vessel in too close proximity to, such a dangerous shore, and he consequently stood ont to sea and came on to Nelson, where the schooner arrived as above. . At San Francisco on April 8, tbere were 18 vessels representing 24,260 tons waiting for charters. Freights are reported very had at that place, and the dullness is likely to continue until the foreign trade revives. The barque Henry Buck has been chartered to load lumber at Puget Sound for Otago. The Charles Edward now presents a more ship-shape appearance, yards having been placed across the foremast and the smokestack was shipped yesterday. Painting and graining operations are being prosecuted vigorously, and wben these are finished tbe steamer will look quite spruce. No expense is being spared in fitting her out, and wben she is ready for sea the Charles Edward will he one of tbe finest steamers engaged in tbe New Zealand coasting trade. In addition to her being supplied with a new boiler, a new steam winch of great power has been placed on deck. This will be utilised in hauling np the anchor by means of an endless chain, thus saving both time and labor. The Cbarles Edward is announced to sail for Wellington on Saturday. f%— — -
