The craft is of dimensions and form of an ordinary tug-boat, and is worked by means of a steam pump of 16 horse-power, with a borizontal tubular boiler. Tho pump is of enormous power, and draws inconsiderable quantities of water, which, by the force with which it is expelled against the sea at the stern, sends the vessel forward. The vessel is furnished with two pairs of tubes, the one, acting at the stern and the other at the bow. While the boat is going ahead ' those in front are closed by stopcocks, but if occasion arises for making the steamer retrogade, tbe after tubes are closed and tbe , others opened. The invention is said to be that of an American engineer, and the steamer is reported to have already made ten knots an hour. ,
