The Taiaroa will bring down the Southern portion of the mail. The Wellfgton arrived in harbor early this tuorning, having left Wellington at 1-30 p.m. and Pictch at 8 p.m. yesterday. She is in charge of Captain Anderson, lace chief officer of the Botorua, and who was at one time master of the steamer Graf ton. The Wellington sails for Picton and Welligtpn at 6 p.m. The Charles Edward hauled 'alongside the Government Wharf tbis morning. Her new boiler has been shipped, as also a new steam winch. The repairs that are being effected to her are in a forward state, aod she will te ready for sea about the latter end of the present month. Captain M'Gee, the late popular commander of the Welliugton was a passenger bytbeArawata from, Wellington to Dunedin yesterday. He goes there to have an interview with the manager of the Union Company relative to his reduction from captain of the Wellington to chief officer of the Arawata, the latter berth which be declines to accept unless he receives captain's pay while fulfilling that post. What the outcome of the interview will be it is difficult to say, but all who know Captain M'Gee will agree with us, we feel sure, when we say that he will? not accept the "Irish rise" which it is proposed to give him unless he receives the pay which he asks for. Captain Creagh, owned by Messrs KruU antf Col, c Wellington, from Greytrouth to Wanganui,, with a cargo of coal, was towed into the latter port by the p.s. Manawatu on Wednesday evening, last. She had been 25 days on the passage, during which she. met with terrific weather. She made Wanganui Heads five days after leaving the Grey, but was driven about 300 miles to sea; her sails were blows away^ the bulwarks smashed, and the galley knocked into splinters. The crew were almost starred, having ran out of provisions.- It was a wonder she was able to get into Wanganui; but tbe Owners hare to thank the good seamanship of Captain Creagh and the exertions of the crew for that. • . •
