Sydney, April 22. The Nineveh left London on the 10th with 400 immigrants for Sydney. At Newcastle at an extended sitting of the Miners' Conference, among other things a motion was carried that the Lambton Lodge be expelled from the Miners' Association of tbe {Hunter River district. At the same meetiug it was agreed that the Waratah Bend be increased by 25,000 tons, making in all 90,000. The Operatic Company held a sacred concert at tbe Victoria Theatre, Newcastle which was fairly attended. The innovation is exciting a good deal of discussing. At Wentworth a melancholy and fatal accident occurred in the drowning of John Sharp, the best swimmer in the neighborhood. The deceased swam on horseback after a swan ou the Murray, but his horse becoming entangled in the reeds threw him. His friends, whom he told five minutes before drowning that he was all right, were unable to assist him and he got on the swan and resting on it for half an hour, he sank. During the flood of 1870 the deceased carried the mails 45 miles per day frequeutly having to swim his horse for miles tbrough flooded country, and it was not an uncommon occurrence for him on his horse drowning to take the mails and swim ashore. He was then 13 years •f age. Melbourne. E. Monk of Wombat, has received another threatening letter signed "another Kelly sympathise at large." Typhoid fever prevails and it is said that the contagion is being spread by a milkman in supplying his customers. It is stated that some of the oft remanded Kelly sympathisers at Beechworth have entered an action against the remanding Magistrate. Signor Bischaccianti, the well known operatic agent, is dead. The yield of the Albion for tbe week was 464 ozs from 176 ton. of stone crushed, and there was great excitement in Ballarat. The country is in a very bad state owing to the want of rain. The Minister for Railways, at a baniuet given in his honor at Trentbam, took great credit to himself for his administration of the Railway Department, and justified the Black Wednesday proceedings as a part of the policy of the Government. Mr Elkington has been appointed Professor of History and Political Economy at the University. A survey is being made in view of the possibility of supplying Melbourne with water from the Watts river. The Eastern market building is rapidly approaching completion. Adelaide. The Government hare decided to discontinue receiving nominations for free passages to immigrants till further notice. At present 4000 certificates for passages are outstanding. The Hon. C. Young bas left for England. It is reported that a telegram has been received from London stating that it is the intention of the Rev. C. H. Spurgeon to visit Australia. The Chamber of Manufacturers have resolved to interview the Government and ask them to sink an artesian well near Adelaide with a view to getting a supply of water. Perth. A Company is in course of formation for the purpose of purchasing a 300 ton Steamer for running between Freemantle and Cossacks. The major part of the capital has been subscribed. Bishop Parry has been married to Mrs Alexander.
