Lord Chelmsford relieved Ekowe on the night of the 4th. The total British loss was 220 of all ranks.
Ekowe has been evacuated, and Colonel Pearson is retiring to the Tugela river. Ekowe is to be abandoned as a military position.
Lord Chelmsford returns to Gurgelova.and will form an entrenched camp between Tugela and Port Durnford
The Boers are threatening to invest Preteria and retain Governor Frere unless their demands are granted.
