'Is there no hope?' the sick man said ; The silent doctor shook his head. ** While there ia life there's hope/ he cried.' j " JSgroto, dum animas est, spes est." DR. L. L. SMITH (The only legally-qualifled Medical man advertising), consults— _ On all affections of the Nervous System (no matter from what cause arising) j on all broken-down Constitutions ; on all Diseasei arising from early Indiscretions ; on Goat j on Rheumatism. IN these Colonies, those excesses which we have indulged in "hot youth'-* tell opon us with fearful interest. Onr regrets are useless, our repinings futile. The sole idea Bhould be the chances we possess of remedying the ills we already have, or combating tbe effects likely to result. Hide it as he may— put on as good an exterior as he can— still is the victim conscious that he is a living lie, and that sooner or later his vices will discover him to the world. Our Faith— oor obligations to society at large the welfare of our iuture onspring—and ths duty we owe to ourgelves— forbids procrasti nation, and points oot to us not to wait till the ravages break 6ut in our constitutions. Before negotiating with a merchant before engaging with a confidential clerk; oefore employing a barrister—a careful man makes inquiries as to their standing ; and, in the I case of a legal adviser, both as to his legal I qualifications and as to his capabilities of transacting the individual business he consults him upon. Strange tb say, however, in the Selection of a medical man, the sufferer frequently omits theae neceseary precautions, and without regard tothe fitness, qualification, experience, and ability for the particular ailment requiring treatment, he consults the uearest man, whose experience and practice, perhaps, lies in quite an opposite direction. Is it astonishing- that so many are driven mad, are ruined in health, and are bankrupt in spirits, hope, and money? Have I not, for years, pointed out to them tbat Ij Dr. L. L. Smith, am the only legally-qualified medical mam adaertwmg in the Colonies f Have I not also prosecuted, at my own expense, these very quacks, and exposed tbs various nostrums they are selling— auch as Phosphodyne, Essence of life, &c — and had them analysed, and found them to oonsist of * Burnt sugar and flavoring matter," and the certificates I have proved to be all forgeries. It is for this reason that I step out of the ethics of the profession and advertise, to give those who ceqturie the services of my branch an opportunity of knowing they can consult a legally qualified man, and one moreover who has made this his especial study. Dr L L. Smith is the only legally qualified medical man advertising, ahd he has been in Melbourne 24 years in full practice on Nervous Diseases Lara of Power and Debility -Syphilitic Affections Want of Condition Gout asd Rheumatism. Dr. L. L. SMITH can beconsulted by letter— Fee JS I. Medicines forwarded to all he colonies. Db. L. L. SMITH, 182 Collins at East. (Late tha Residence of the Governor), MSLBOOBHB. 10]
