The Education Board have severely censured Mr Everiss, the master of the Mount Cook school, for his conduct towards the Misses M'Gowan, teachers in that school. Two of the Misses M'Gowan are to be removed, but the removal does not imply een sure. Wednesday. The Associated Insurance Companies offer .£2OO reward for the conviction of any person wilf nlly setting fire to premises There are fourteen cases for hearing next Monday at the criminal sessions, among them being attempted suicide, and lorging aud uttering. There is no civil action entered for the next session. A great many names have been put on the electoral roll, especially in the country districts of Wellington. W. H. Inman, charged with .passing a valueless cheque, has been remanded to Masterton. A careful, but unsuccessful, Rearch has been made for the missing yacht Fanny Godhard, and there is too much reason to fear that she has gone to the bottom with Mr Stevenson, who was sailing her alone. A purse of sovereigns has been presented to the Rev Mr Durabell, Primitive Methodist clergyman, prior to his departure for Canterbury. Mr Sheehan does not leave for Waimate till after the arrival of the Premier. William Laucy, a cabman, has been fined 20s and costs for carrying a coffin with a body in his cab. Joseph Londere, for exposing for sale fruit unfit for human consumption, has been fined £5 and costs. The receipts and expenditure on the New Zealand railways for the four weeks ending Bth March last were:— Kaipara section, receipts £430 4s 4d, expenditure J£36o 15s 3d; Auckland, receipts £4595 14s 6d, expenditure £3304 17s Id; Napier, receipts £2462 1 7s 6d, expenditure £1483 12s 7d ; Wellington, receipts £2881 5s 6d, expenditure £2318 19s Id; Wanganui, receipts £3131 19s, expenditure £1842 69 2d; New Plymouth, receipts £601 16s 6d, expenditure £438; Greymouth, receipts £722 16s lld, expenditure £369 8s; Westport, receipts £195 12s 6d, expenditure £290 lis lld; Nelson, receipts £684 8s 2d. expenditure £499 4s 7d; Picton, receipts £422 5s Id, expenditure £357 0s 2d; Christchurch, Dunedin, and Invercargill, receipts £65,826 19s, expenditure £33,196 17s 7d. Governor and Lady Robinson have accepted the invitation of the Choral Society, and will be present ut their concert. Sir George Grey arrived in tbe Hinemoa last night. A gentleman living near Wellington recently advertised £5000 to lend, and in a few hours after the publication of the notice he had lent the money for three years at twelve per cent. His Excellency the Governor was shown through the public offices, and expressed himself pleased with their appearance. The Hospital contains 64 patients, 30 having been admitted during the month. There were 26 discharged, and 3 died. Another large meeting of ratepayers last night passed a resolution in favor of adopting Mr Clinic's drainage scheme instead of Mr Clark's. Several opposed both schemes. A thorough search will be commenced to-day for the missing yacht Fanny Goddard. The iYeto Zealander referring to the Railway returns telegraphed yesterday, says: — There is grave reason to fear that the other sources of revenue will not come up to the estimate, and that there will be a difficiency, not only in the anticipated genera! revenues, but also arising from an excess in expenditure." After referring to the constant clamour coming from every part of the colony to the Government for pecuniary assistance, the article says :— " That they have exceded the safe limit of expenditure on contingencies we fear, when next the House meets, will be proved beyond a doubt." It fears that the Minister for Public Works has listened to the constant cry of " give, give," and gone beyond the bounds of former official precedent. The concluding portion of the article says: "Tbat during the office of tbe present Ministry there has been a lavish outlay, jot alway» warranted by immediate necessities or expectant results even the supporters of tbe Ministry must admit." John T. Jones, the apprentice who killed the cook Banks of the Loch Fergus by a blow with a handspike, was brought up this morning charged with manslaughter and formally committed to take his trial at the forthcoming criminal sessions. 'the Governor and Sir George Grey had an interview at Government House today. The Governor will be invited to a ball at the Imperial Opera House on the 16th inst. Mr Edward Toomath has been appointed Commissioner of Education Reserves. The Hon. Mr Ballance will probably leave for Wanganui on a visit to-day or tomorrow. Consequent on the alarming extent of sickness in the vicinity of an open drain in Adelaide Road, into which a number of house drains empty, the Public Works Committee recommended that it be covered in at once, but as the necessary means are not available at present it will be let by contract on condition tbat the contractor will not require the money till three months after its completion The City Engineer has also been instructedto flush the drain as frequently as possible. A rubbish depot at the foot of the same road is also deemed a cause of sickness, and will be closed. Sickness has been more prevalent than has been generally known.

Rees, M.H.R., for £10,000 damages, ai the suit of Mr J. S. M'Farlane, M.H.R.,as trustee in the estate of the late Captain Reid, haS been issued and Sent to NApiet for service. Mr George M'Leau, M.H.R. for Waikouaiti, has been making a tour of the Thames district and portions of the North. Private letters from Wellington state that Sir Hercules Robinson will probably be at Waikato for the Native meeting in company with the Premier, as the Waikato chief., desire to see their new ruler. Chiuß.chb_.c__, Wednesday. A curious case was heard to-day ih the* Magistrate.) Court. Patrick Toley was brought up for deserting his wife, but Mrs Toley stated that she merely wanted to get him back again. Iv swearing the information she had in her agitation given the impression that her husband had left her destitute which was not the case, but she merely wanted him back and desired to withdraw the information. His Worship allowed this after cautioning the complainant. E. Reeves' stable in the suburbs was burnt down this morning. Loss £30; the building was not insured. Graiiamstown, Wednesday. The keel of a steamer intended for the Upper Thames trade, to he driven by water as a motive power, was laid on Monday. The vessel will also receive a screw to be used if the water experiment fails. The principle is said to be the same as that of several vessels now plying in the English and American waters. The Thames Produce Company are also getting a 60 feet keel steamer for the Upper Thames trade. Hokitika, Wednesday. The Stella returned from Jackson's Bay last night after an absence of three weeks with the Commissioners, Secretary, and several others. She took on board at the Bay 52 settlers, men, women, and children, and at Hokitika 47 unemployed for Wellington, for which port she sailed last night. Mr Pitt's body is not yet recovered. An active search still continues along the beach, as it is supposed he may be entangled among the snags near the mouth of the Teremakau. Instructions have been sent to the Greymouth police to search as well. The Supreme Court is adjourned until tomorrow on account of the non arrival of the Judge.
