CRICKET MATCH.
&ELSON fc WAKEFIELD. The above match took place on Saturdaylast at Wakefield, and ended in a victory for Wakefield by Seven Wickets. TnZ kelson team left by the morning train, and the railway officials kindly allowed them to leave the train at Bird's latie, which saved a Considerable time, Messrs Greenfield atld g. Fowler captained the respective te«mS, and the fbiuje'i; winning" the toss decided to gd to the Wickets. HsSllida* and C'tirtiartpresented Nelsoh against the' bowling of T. Eden and S. Fowler. The bowling was welf on, and the fell q%k|y. Burns bit, well for 14. Halliday and White played well for 11 and 10 reajjefctivelft the tdtal scorl being 64; The Nelson men £tt odce took thefield, Arnold and G. bowler representing Wakefield at the wickets, Bdrps grid F. Greenfield doing the trundling for Nelson, fifth's came slowly but surely, till, with the score at 14, Arnold, in playing back, hit his wicket. W. Eden filled the vacancy. The batting throughout the innings was very good, each man showing a capital defence. G. Fowler hit well for 22, and a total of 102 was run up before the last wicket fell. Tbe Wakefield men once more took the field, Halliday and Curtis again representing Nelson with the bat. Halliday played well for 20, and White ran into double figures. The other wickets fell quickly, and this time the total was but 01, leaving Wakefield 24 to get to win, which they did with the loss of three wickets, Arnold and W. Eden, the two " not outs," playing well for 11 and 9 respectively. The .Nelson players were hospitably entertained by the Wakefield team, and Host Smith, of the Forest Inn, catered in his usual satisfactory manlier. The customary three times three were given by both sides, and the Nelson players left for town by the evening train The team to represent Nelson in the interprovincial match with Wellington will be I chosen on Wednesday next.
