(Per steamer at Adelaide.) . London, February 14. 1 here is a terrible gloom in the country at the Zulu disaster, and consternation prevails at the heavy loss. A stern determination is shown to redeem the honor of the British arms, and inflict a signal and lasting lesson upon the Zulus. Troops have been ordered to the Cape from the Mauritius. The Premier in the House of Lords last night at the opening of Parliament said the progress of the Treaty of Berlin was highly gratifying. He defended the Sultan against attack and eulogised Mr. Layard. Referring to Afghan affairs he declared that India henceforth would be invulnerable. Sir S. Northcote in the House of Commons alluded to the difficulty consequent on the disappearance of the Ameer, aud maintained that India would be able to bear all the actual expenditure of the war. It is expected that Kngland will 'shortly send two millions sterling to the Indian Government free of interest. The sentence on the Glasgow Bauk Directors is generally considered inadequate The Theatre Royal at Glasgow has been destroyed by fire. The Treaty between Austria and Germany annuls the Treaty of Prague, and provides for apUbiscitum of the inhabitants of Scbleswig whenever a return to Danish denomination is desired.
