WAIMEA ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting was held on Saturday, March 1. Present — Meesra. White, Bell, Holland, Fowler, and Win. After the miuutes ha ! been confirmed the Overseer reported ii 6 follows : — " Mr Eberharilt ha 3 completed contract for gravelling at Appleby. The approßch to the bridge here ou 'ht to hs done at once. Mr Osborue has finished culvfirt at Briybtwater. By the instructions of the chairman it has beeo made eight feet longer, being considered too short. The fordway at the Wairoa has been picked ; it is pretty smooth on the bottom, but rather deep. Brick walls are required for culvrrt on Mr Shace's line. In Waimen West the inhabitants have ploughed up the roi;d leading; to Mr BoWou'a ; I have put men on to round it up in accordance with former instructions. I huve had the road for which tenders are invitaJ , for gravelling cleared of manuka. There is a stretch of furze which has proceeded from Mr Arnold'o hedge, and which covers more than half the road, I have not touched, wtiitinji your orders with regard to the esme. The gravelling on the Moulere Hills will bo commenced next month. At Bell Grove two banks have been lowered previous to the meialling. The lower end of Pigeon Valley road is being improved Ttndeia might b« again invited for another Bection of the Stanley Brook rood. The sura of £5, being the balance in hand, has been expended en the Aniseed Valley road. I should recommend the purchase of a stock of drain pipes, various sizes, being cheaper than box culverts." Resolved, That Leahy and Hagan s tender for gravelling the road at 28s per chain be accepted. Letter received from tho chairman County Council in, reply to the eommuoicft'.ion respecting approaches to Waimeß Bridges, stating lhat by rceolution of the late Council, the Counly fuodd have been already appropriated to the various Road Boards until tho 30. h June cext. ReeolveJ, That steps be immediately taken to have those approaches mado good. The following letter from the Chairman of the County Council wae alßo read : — "I am instructed by the Waimta County Council to call on you for a copy of the Valuation List (of the Waimea Highway Dittrict) which is required for the necessary formation ot the Electoral Roll of thu County. Tha cost atiendieg complying with this rtque3t will be of course m-t by the County. Thu Council ia urged thus to avaii itself of ihe provisions of the Counties Act Amendment Act, 1877, not only by its desire to comply wiih the provisions of The Local Election and other Acts, but to save a great and needless expense to the ratepayers of the WBiroea County ; a deßire by which your Highway Board would be equally actuated." Reeolved, That Surveyor ascertain from the owners of the intervening properties whether they are willing to sell, and the terms, and to report to next meeting. Letter (received from the Secretary of the Motueka Board with reference to a letter which appeared in the recent report of the Waimea Board's proceedings, respecting tho payment to the former Board of £27 out of the vote of;£700 for the Stanley Brook road, and denying that their Board bad received any Provincial vote for the Thorpe-Oronoco road, which was partly constructed by the late Pangatotara Board out of moueys receive:! under the Payment to Provinces Act, but not completed, because the exact Hne on the Wairaea side had not been decided on, in consequence of which the balance in hand intended for that work was expended on other part of the same road. Resolved, That in reply, the Motueka Board be informed that there was no intention to impute to them misappropriations of funds, but this Board is BiiH of opinion (bat the £27 in question had not been expended on the work for which it was intended, viz., the road between Thorpe and Stanley Brook. Resolved, That the Chairman of the County Council be respectfully requested to inform this Board whether the recent deputation to the Government have been able to ascertain wlint bos becoma of the £500 (part of (he vote of £700 /or the Stanley Brock road) respecting which this Board hce been unable to obtain any explanation from the Minister for Public Works. Resolved, That the next meeting of this Board be held on fcuiurday, 29(h inst., in view of the preparation of the annual account. Warrants were eigned for £203 9s Id.
