It would perhaps (says the Wairarapa Sfandard) be too much to ask the Education i Board to furnish a return of the number of drunken teachers it has now in its employment, but it is only fair that it should publish a return of the number who have been dismissed from the service of the Board on account of their intemperate habits. The return would be instructive as showing that when they get a sober, pains-taking, and competent teacher, they should not be in a hurry to get rid of him. The Saturday Advertiser says : — " A man who states that he worked as mate with Ned Kelly at Oxley Plains, Victoria, about two years ago, called afc our office on Wednesday morning and informed us that he has received a letter from a friend in Mansfield, assuring him that it is the intention of the Kellys to try to escape to New Zealand. They have a first cousin living near Oamaru, and after visiting him they intend to escape to America. We give the man's statement for what it is worth." An amusing case was heard in the District Court, Melbourne, in which too theatrical personages were involved. It transpired in evidence that a panorama was used for a year's representa- i tion of the Indian Mutiny. After being j somewhat altered it did duty recently as a representation of the Russo-Turkish war, and proved unsuccessul in the provinces, : where the audiences refused to accept the appearance of the Highlanders, elephants, and Sepoys as historically accurate.
Holloway's Ointment and Pills. — Rheumatism and Neuralgia. — Though the former disease remorselessly attacks the young and the robust, and the latter ruthlessly selects its victims from the weak and delicate, the same medical treatment will infallibly cure both complaints. After the affected parts have been diligently fomented with hot brine, and the skin has been dried Holloway's Ointment must well aud perseveringly be rubbed in for a few minutes twice a day, and his Pills must be taken according to the printed directions wrapped round each box of his medicine. Both Ointment and Pills are accompanied by instructions designed for the public at large, and no invalid, who attentively reads them, can now be at any loss to doctor himself successfully.
