OTAGO V. CANTERBURY. Christchurch, Monday night. Ihe match against Otago commenced today, the weather being dull but fine. Otago went in first, with Paramor and Douglas at the wicket. The former was bowled in the first over for two. In .the second over Douglas was caught off Ashley. Vernon then made a slight stand with M'Neill but was bowled for ten Maskell, a left-hander followed, and with Clark, brought the score to 30, when the latter was bowled. Five wickets down for 31 runs. Maskell next succumbed, after playing very tamely. Beard now took the ball as bowler, and in turn was relieved by Fowler, who bowled Crawshaw, aDd afterwards Fulton. Ashley was clean bowled, and Austin, a left-hander carried out hia bat. The batting was weak throughout. Ashley, Firth, and Purser bowled well ; Beard was unlucky. The fielding was fair, but not striking. The totai scored was 77, including only four extras.
