fPRESS AOBHOT.] Auckland, Friday. The Customs duties for January amounted to £20,057, being an increase of nearly £7000 over December, and £700 over the corresponding period of last year. The Commission to enquire into the position of higher education will Bit in Auckland next week. The Margaret Galbraith arrived at two o'clock this morning from London after a psssage of 97 days. She has several passengers and a large general cargo. The Toyage was uneventful. At Mr Buckland's sale at Remuera to-day dairy cattle were in short supply; store cattle dull of sale; fat cattle snpply not equal to demands. The beasts penned were in remarkably good condition and sold at 30s per lOOlbs; sheep (abundant supply) best wethers 3d per lb; ewes 2d to 2id; fat lambs in request from 10s to 13s ; steers £8 10s to £9 14b« The Waiuka Agricultural Show takes place on the 11th instant. The entries received include horses 22, cattle 23, pigs 11. Farm and garden produce is more fully represented, there being 76 entries.
