The Nelson Evening Mail. MONDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 1879.
The day has opened well for the holiday in celebration of the Anniversary of the Province, and a large attendance is expected at the Botanical Reserve where there is likely to be keen competition among our athletes for the prizes offered by the Friendly Societies. There will be a display of fireworks in the evening, to be followed by a ball in the Oddfellow's Hall. The householders at Foxhfll met on Monday evening for the purpose of electing an Education Committee, Mr George Holland, senior, in the chair. Ten candidates were proposed, and after a bailot was taken, the following gentlemen were declared duly elected :— Messrs. D. Thomas, G. Holland senior, W. Boddington, J. Price, James Rutherford, T. Robertson, and Joseph Holland. At a meeting of the committee held immediately afterwards, Mr Geo. Holland, senior was elected chairman, and Mr Joseph Holland, Secretary.
