It is estimated that about 10,000 bales of wool will ha#« to be brought by rail from Wairarap*this season.—The case of Miss Jones v Kenneth Wilson, principal of the Wellington College, is being heard to day In the first charge, that of unlawfully detaining her property, the bench decided in her favour to the exttntof ordering Mr Wilson to give up the property and fining him £1Miss Jones had laid damages at £50. The second case between the parties is not yet concluded ; in this Miss Jones sues Mr Wilaon for £50 for wrongful dismissal from her office of matron at the college. Mr Olivier appears for the plaintiff and Mr Travers for the defendant. Jn the evidence Miss Jones accuses Mr Wilson of making indecent proposals to her. Mr Geo. Thomas reports markets as follows :- Flour (Adelaide), none in stock, but sales have been made to arrive at £15 lus to £16; Colonial, £10 10s to £1 1 ; oats 4? 4d to 48 6d; bran, Is 3d; wheat, 4s for fowl samples; hams, 9Jd; bacon, BJd; cheese, B^d, Bcarce; maize, 3s 3d, scarce; pollard, £1 per tonj butter, lod; potatoes, Bs.
. . Uauxtjtua, Wednesday. J Captain Andrew's saw mill at Catlin's River was totally destroyed by fire this morning. The origin is unknown. The estimated loss is £5000. It was insured for £3000 in the Zealand Insurance Company. Gkeytoavn, Wednesday night. The following arc further particulars re the fire. Mr Caselberg's loss is estimated at about £SOOO. A large amount of stock was saved but is greatly injured. The other premises destroyed wore worth £2000. Tiic loss falls principally on Mrs Moles and the Goverumeut. This is tbe third fire which has happened on this spot, the first being the office of the Wairarapa Men ury. The following insurances are reported : Caaelberg, in the New Zealand : stores, £500; stock, £1250; Tniti'd Insurance : stock. £1500 • National : stores, £500; Victoria : stock, £500; Imperial: stores, £250, stock, £250; South British : stock, £500. CimisTCiirncH, Thursday. The Captain of the Canterbury cricketers arrived overland last night, and the others by the Rotorua this morning. — The GovernuieutsteatuerStellahasarnvedat Akaroa.and was employed all yesterday lauding material for the lighthouse now being erected on the Heads. — The annual meeting of tho subscribers to tho Female Refuge was held yesterday, when the report waa considered to be of a, very satisfactory character. There are 17 inmates of the Refuge. Fowler who was arrested a few days ago for embezzling money :.s a railway guard and whose case broke down through the crown prosecutor neglecting to call a ■ material witness, was re arrested and will be brought up again this morning. Gore, Thursday 10 a.m. Mr Conyers has considerably improved during the night. He is both stronger acd more rational this morning. Bljnheim Thursday. Mr Fell, tbe Major of Blenheim, has been summoned to the Police Court on Monday next by Mr George Henderson, on a charge of using threatening language towards him at a rect-nt meeting of the Literary Institu- ' tion, in threatening to kick him out of the ! room.
