(Per llingarooma at Bluff.) MELriounjfE, January 7. The quarter's and year's revenue returns are now published. The total receipts during the quarter were £1,138,106, showing an increase over the corresponding quarter of last year of £37,284. Governor Robinson is now on a visit to Yistoria.
In the Western district cricket match between Lord Harris' team and an Australian eleven, it at one time seemed very doubtful if defeat in one innings would be prevented. There was an unpleasant feeling against the Englishmen during the match, owing to Conway being refused admission to the ground without a ticket. He forced his way, and the result is that a charge of assault will be heard at the Police Court.
The police have arrested a number of persona under the Outlawry Act for aiding and abetting the Kellys. They are remanded for a week.
Robertson Brothers' sale at Colae went off very badly this year, and only realised a total of £5482. The highest price paid for stud bulls wa3 175 guineas, and for shorthorn stud cows 350 guineas. Mr C. Simpson of New Zealand was the principal purchaser. In the collision near Babel between ihe schooner St Kilda from New Zealand and the barque Seagull, bound for Adelaide with coal, one seaman from the latter wa3 drowned, in attempting to jump from one vessel to another. The captain of the barque was also much injured by the falling gear. The schooner was only slightly ininjured about the cutwater.
Rain is falling which is mtich wanted. Wheat is lower owing to large deliveries from the country. In the match between the Canterbury cricketers and Melbourne, the Canterbury bowlers, Lee, Firth and others, tried their best without avail.
