A correspondent writing from Blue Spur, Otago, sen^s ths following : — The Spur is a quiet spot, and some odd boys live thereon. One of our number is •* Sammy Blake " by name, an ex-Sunday school teacher, who stands about sft 2in, and a better " blower "is not to be found. He says he cnn do feats of strength which would open our eyep. vSuch as throw a 13st anan over a billiard table, handle 56 b weights as though they were peanuts; in fact, anything under the sun but '* patch the moon." He hag been nearly everything, from a eea captain to a local preacher, and now is a miner ! " Well,boyß, look here," aaid Sammy, " talk about strength, why my brother Tom, was rushed by old Buby, the Hereford bull. He ran to the stockyard fence, but juet then he was pinned by the brute, but he wasn't hurt ; for the bull's horns just parsed on each side of his chest. Well, cried old Hughy, M What Hid he do, Sammy." Why, replied Sammy, he took hold of the brute by the horns and turned him over on his bnck, and bobbed through the fence and got away ! 11 1 know," said Sbotover Jack, " for some time after that he was frightened of the old bull, and of course on the look-out. I saw Tom crossing the big paddock ooe day, and he was about midway across when the old bull gave chase. " Tom caw he could not get away, so he stood like a post; on came Ruby, and bellowing like thunder. I (hoaght it was all up with him, but when the old bruta wt-s almost on him be stepped nimbly aside, grasped old Ruby's tail, swung him around bis head, and threw him a good two chains, then ran to the fence and bobbed through and got away?" "Good on you, Jack; I knew you would speak the truth," said old Hughy, •' but Sammy's yarn is a red-hot fib."
