BO ARDMAN, ESQ. HAWKWITH V. NICHOLLS. To the Editor op the 'Evening Mail. SIR,— According to the report in your paper of tbe above caae Mr Bunny in addressing the Court for the defendant made pretty free use of my name, and it is for the purpose of flatly contradicting him that I write. With the exception of the fact that an altercation did take place between Mr Nicholls and myself respecting the prosecutions for " Sly Orog Selling" there is not a word of truth in the whole of his statement. I did assert, and do so now, that the prosecution was ill-advised, and not worthy the the action of a new Bobby, Jet alone a respectable body of men. The language attributed by Mr Bunny to me was never made use of nor thought of— lf so. why was I not proceeded against, as the constable who heard the one must have heard the other— If in addressing the Bench Mr Bunny had said that Nicholls and I had commenced the festivities of the season a little earlier than he and the rest of his profession' had, it would have been nearer the facts of the case, and saved any comments on his remarks, land &c, J. A. Harley. Jtfelaon, 27th December, 1878.
