In tbe House of Lords Viscount Cranbrook's motion regarding the expenses of the Afghan war being chargeable on India was carried on a division by <50 to 65. Lord Beaconsfleld alluding to the Afghan question declared !hat an attempt at rectification of the frontier was a necessary result of lhe war. England was now on friendly terms with Russia whose recent explanation in reft- rence to the mission to Cabul was considered satisfactory. The House of Commons agreed to an adjournment of the debate on Mr "Whitebread's motion for a vote of censure on the policy of the Government regarding Afghanistan.
