(Per Tararua) The Embassy question has been the absorbing topic of the week. Efforts have been made in various directions to frustrate the Embassy, but Ihe Chief Secretary appears to have set bis mind upon it. At Geelong on Monday night Mr Berry was unable to obtain a hearing. A most {noisy meeting took place, the Chairman giving the result as a alight majority in favor of the Embassy, but at a meeting held at the Town Hail yesterday afternoon, at which about 3000 were present, a resolution by a majority of four to one was carried against the Embassy. The Attorney-General, jwho was present, attempted to speak, but the meeting would net allow him. The meeting was a very noisy one, and much feeling was shown over the question. In the Council yesterday Mr Cuthbertson's resolutions in favor of the reform that the Appropriation Bili shall not contain any disputed matter, and that in the event of any disputed matter being included it shall be placed in a separate Bill, and both Houses be dissolved on the question were carried by 18 to 7 without any discussion. The resoluwere then forwarded to the Assembly. The member for Carlton held a meeting last night, when a resolution was passed that no embassy should proceed to England until the country had been consulted, The proceedings in the Assembly during the last few days were characterised by great disorder and very little business was done. The Reform Clnb started under the auspices of the Berry Ministry has collapsed, and the proprietor has been sued in the County Court for money expended on account of the Club.

There is nothing fresh regarding the hushrangers. A number of police are still out pursuing them, but with the exception that the horses of the muidered constables have been recovered near the scene of the murder nothing has been discovered. The seamen's strike in Sydney affects this part inasmuch as the boats of the A.S.N. Company make trips to Melbourne.
