Court this morning Mr Mellish directed the Inspector to enquire into the condition of the Portuguese castaway sailors with the view, if necessary, of assisting them from the poor box. They have teen engaged by the captain of the ship Eangitikei, which rescued them, and who •will deliver them over to the Portuguese Consul in London. New Plymouth, Tuesday night. There being only one polling place with an ordinary door, a large crowd has been collected outside all the morning, each voter having to wait his turn which takes some considerable time in consequence of the block at the door.
