The three-masted schooner Mad Cap, a ■wholesome looking vessel hailing from Brixham, arrived in harbor yesterday morning after a passage of forty-two days from Port Louis. Captain Miller reports leaving that place on October 13th, and experienced fine weather with light variable winds for the first thirteen days, then a succession of gales, varying from N.W. to S.W. and accompanied with hail and rain, were met with. On Nov. 2 the sea was running so high that the vessel had to be hove to. for 12 hours, the wind being from W.N.W.; from thence moderate weather was experienced, the land between Capes Foulwind and Farewell being sighted on Saturday morning last, and in the afternoon the vessel rounded the Spit, coming up the Bay during the evening, and being towed into harbor by the Lady Barkly yesterday morning. The only laud sighted during the passage was Amsterdam Island, which was passed on Oct. 26th five miles distant. The Mad Cap brings a cargo of sugar consigned jointly to Mesara N. She is from Oamaru, which port she left on the 13th inst. Fine weather was experienced until the vessel was off tbe Peninsula, when a N.W. gale was encountered which lasted two days. A light 'S.W. wind carried tbe vessel through the Straits. On the 17th, as the weather was very threatening, Captain Bishop brought his vessel to an anchor at Guard's Bank. During that day a heavy gale from the N.W. set in, and blew with ungovernable fury until Saturday morning last, when it moderated sufficiently to allow of the vessel heaving up her anchor. Steven's Island was rounded iv the evening, and the Clyde arrived here as above. The schooners Martha Reid and Fiery Cross, and a barque bound from Wellington to Newcastle were lying at Guard's Bank in company with the Clyde during the gale.
