CITY COUNCIL.

The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Council was held last night. Present all the members except Cr Levien. ' A letter was read from the Mayor to the Minister for Public Works, advising the immediate removal of the rock near the new wharf.— An application from Mr Scott to stretch a wire across Bridge-street from Menary's Hotel was granted, but the Town Clerk was instructed to notify to him that it would not be permitted again.— A letter was received from Mr Fletcher, asking for a contribution te the Salvage Corps. After some discussion it was referred to the .Finance Committee. The Finance Committee's report recommended that George Jackson be "allowed £5 off his first month's rent for the Marine Baths on account of the loss suffered by the road to the Baths being in such a bad state, and the water stained during the |time the reclamation work 3 were being curried on.
