An influential deputation, headed by Lord Lawrence, waited upon Lord Beaconsfield to recommend that Parliament be called together immediately in view of the Afghan difficulty. Lord Beaconsfield declined to receive them. It ia stated that if war break* out Parliament will he communicated with m accordance with the Indian Act, which provides that matters of this kind may be submitted to the Legislature within three months after hostilities are commenced.
