THE LATE EIRE.

To the Editor of the 'Evening Mail.' I

Sik— My letter in last evening's paper has resulted in sundry visits and explanations " from persons presumably in authority " in reference to the interdicting the removal of goods to avoid damage or destruction. My remarks were not intended to censure individuals, or even their want of judgment in the emergency, but to point to the necessity of authorised organisation. At the special and eat nest request of Mr Frank Hill of II.M. Customs (who was in no wise referred to as interfering) I am induced to write this. I am glad to find that measures are being adopted to give effect to the suggestions in my yesterday's letter. I am, &c, W. M. Stanton. Norwich Union Fire Office, October 29, 1878.
